Q: What does the word ‘grow’ bring to mind? (Change, development, maturity, good health, progress)
C: Growth is exciting. It’s encouraging to see a child grow, to see a person become
mature, to see a weak person becoming healthy...
Q: How can we describe the term ‘To conform’? (To fall in / to be like)
Galatians 5:19-23
19 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;
20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions
21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Q: What are two patterns we can conform to?
C: the pattern of the world (adultery, impurity, idolatry, selfish ambition, pride,
greed...)
C: the pattern of a disciple of Jesus (Love, Peace, joy, unity, forgiving spirit...)
Luke 11:24-26
24 "When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, 'I will return to the house I left.'
25 When it arrives, it finds the house swept clean and put in order.
26 Then it goes and takes seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first."
C: The evil spirit comes out, it seeks rest if he does not find it, he decides to come back. It is not good enough to clean our spiritual house and put in order.
This space can now be a happy hunting ground for Satan.
Unless we block his re-entry, the evil spirit, not only come back, but gets seven other spirits more wicked and make our final condition worse than ever before.
Q: Why do you think the evil spirit get to do this? (Because the place is empty)
Q: How can we prevent him from ever coming back? (By being transformed)
Romans 12:2
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Q: What does it mean to be transformed? (To become a new creation)
Q: How can we be transformed? Rom 12: 9 (be transformed by learning to overcome evil.)
Q: How can we overcome evil? (By doing good)
Q: What are some good we can do? (Serving in home and office, help some one with studies, giving gifts etc.,)
Romans 12:10
Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.
Be transformed by learning to be devoted in love
Q: How can we show brotherly love? (By being devoted, be devoted to the disciples, your discipler, your brothers and sisters...)
Q: How can we live in harmony? (Don’t fight and argue, listen to others, be willing to sacrifice, be humble, willing to associate with people of low position)
C: In order to grow let’s overcome the evil, let's be devoted to others like brothersand sisters and let's learn to live in harmony.
