Tell me your name and an experience of going through a job interview?
Luke 9:57-62
57 As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go."
58 Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."
59 He said to another man, "Follow me." But the man replied, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father."
60 Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God."
61 Still another said, "I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say good-by to my family."
62 Jesus replied, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God."
Q: What is the requirements when we go to a interview for a job? Neatness, Sharp, Clean, Biodata, Certificates etc,
Q: How do you feel, sitting in the room before the judges? Nervous, embarass, Afraid, etc.,
Q: What are the few questions asked in the interview?
Questions related to the job, general topics, accounts, family, interest, hobbies etc,
Q: Why were these people going after Jesus? He was good teacher, to obey him, to follow etc.,
Q: When you are selected for the job, do you want to take leaves / holidays immediately? - No
Q: What would you do to impress your boss? Work hard, come on time, giving best etc.,
Q: How would the boss feel about you taking leaves and giving excuses? He would be angry, annoyed, fire you, give the job to others. V: 62
Jesus talks about the one who starts ploughing cannot look back.
Q: What happens when someone looks back or gets distracted? Ploughs in wrong direction, misleads the cattle, messes the field.
Personal sharing:
What is Christ is expecting from us? When we are selected to work for him? Ans: Not to get distracted in Christian life with Jesus.
Q: How does a person get distracted / What are the things that distract us in this world? Sin, self righteousness, money, laziness, girl friend, boy friend, etc.
Q: What are the few ways to be away from distraction? Concentration on God, Obeying God, Openness, prayer, Bible study etc.,
Conclusion
God has chosen us for His mission, so we should focus on His purpose.
