Don't Worry Be Happy

The dictionary defines it as a disturbed state of mind, known to everyone of us because we live with and around it and yet this GIANT word is strange to kids and mentally retarded people.

Students worry about their exams, the girls worry about personal appearance, young father about his insurance policies, work, schooling while his wife worries about making ends meet, or keeping her husband’s affection.

Worry eats into our sleep, takes the joy out of life, robs us of our appetite and paints the future black, grim and forbidden.

So what do I do to overcome?

Psalms 37:1-9
1 Of David. Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong;
2 for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away.
3 Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this:
6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.
7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.
8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret--it leads only to evil.
9 For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.

Matthew 6:25-34
25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?
26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life ?
28 "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.
29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.
30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
31 So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'
32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

If that’s the way we have been looking at things lately, the psalmist David has good news for us.

THERE IS HOPE! There is a positive way to look at life.

Vs 3. Trust God: The alternative is to trust people with the future and that leads to dis-appointment.

Proverbs 3:5-6
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

This lines on to our relationship with God.

Q: How is your prayer time? Is it a token time or a time that we make God special?

Q: How is your trust in God? This comes from our depth in his Word (Bible). Reading the Bible regularly is a good preventive medicine for human mind and spirit.

Vs 3. Do good things. The more good we do, the less the chances evil has to succeed.

Q: Have you been helping the poor lately?

Proverbs 21:13
To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.

Psalms 84:11
For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

Vs 4. Delight in the Lord: Take delight in God and His will and He promises to provide what we need.

1 Peter 5:7
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Vs 5. Commit your ways to God: He will bless your efforts.

1 Corinthians 15:58
Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Q: Have you given up your commitment for God?

Vs 7. Wait patiently for the Lord. He will prevail.

Jude 1:24-25
24 To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy--
25 to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.

1 Thessalonians 5:24
The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.

Conclusion

The more we immerse ourselves in God, His word and His promises, the less we will fret (unhappy, irritated) over the troubles of this world. Sure it’s a tough world we live in, but with God we can be victors.

To make it in a tough world, keep in touch with God and all His children.

HIS WILL FOR US EVERYDAY IS THIS THAT WE SHOULD TRUST, NOT WORRY.
