1. THE CREATION
Genesis 1:1-25
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.
4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.
5 God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning--the first day.
6 And God said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water."
7 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so.
8 God called the expanse "sky." And there was evening, and there was morning--the second day.
9 And God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear." And it was so.
10 God called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." And God saw that it was good.
11 Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds." And it was so.
12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
13 And there was evening, and there was morning--the third day.
14 And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years,
15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so.
16 God made two great lights--the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.
17 God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth,
18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.
19 And there was evening, and there was morning--the fourth day.
20 And God said, "Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky."
21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
22 God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth."
23 And there was evening, and there was morning--the fifth day.
24 And God said, "Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind." And it was so.
25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
1. Divinity and creation
v. 1-2. Here we see God and the Spirit.
Remember, the Trinity (God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit) all had a part in creation. All three existed eternally溶o
beginning and no ending.
2. Days of creation
First day要. 3-5. Light. The earth was dark, God created light.
Second day要. 6-10. Firmament. The clouds and space.
Third day要. 11-13. The plant life of the earth.
Fourth day要. 14-19. Lights. The sun, moon, stars, the nine planets, and the stars are without number. Each star has a name (Ps. 147:4).
Fifth day要. 20-23. Fish and animals. Note He made birds to fly in the air, fish to live in the water, animals to live on the land.
Note: "God spoke and it came to pass." The days of creation could have been longer than twenty-four hours (2 Peter 3:8). Or, God could have done all this in twenty-four-hour days. The length of the days is not really important.
2. THE CREATURE
Genesis 1:26-27
26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
1. Divinity
"Let us [God, Jesus, Holy Spirit] make man in our image, after our likeness." Man was not made in the image of a monkey傭ut in the image of God.
2. Dominion
"And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over all creeping things that creep upon the earth." Man was created higher than animals. Because man was created in the image of God, he can have fellowship with God.
3. Design
要. 27. God created man and woman. Marriage was established before any government, schools, or churches. God created man and woman for each other. (see God's plan for marriage in Eph. 5:22-29.)
Ephesians 5:22-29
22 Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.
24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,
27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.
28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
29 After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church--
3. THE COMMAND
Genesis 1:28-31
28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."
29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.
30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground--everything that has the breath of life in it--I give every green plant for food." And it was so.
31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning--the sixth day.
1. Plan
要. 28-30.
a. Reproduce
If possible husband and wife should have children. The number of children is a personal matter between the couple. No parents should have more children then they can support financially.
Note: Those who do not care for their children are worse than heathens.
1 Timothy 5:8
If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
b. Rule
要. 29-30. Man would rule or control the earth.
2. Pleasure
要. 31. God saw His good works and was satisfied. He was pleased with His work. God created all we see, and all we can't see, in six days
Colossians 1:16-17
16 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.
17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
