In this lesson we are going to learn about Tongue - which is the most important part of our body. We will see how we can be more effective.
James 3:3-10
3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal.
4 Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go.
5 Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.
6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.
7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man,
8 but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness.
10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.
Through the ships are so huge, carrying loads but still it is steered by a very small rudder. The Bible compares it with a tongue.
It is very small, not very obvious but does the biggest job - Talks - Good and bad.
Vs 6 says because of our tongue we can go to hell. It is restless, evil, full of deadly poison. Ask yourself what is my tongue known for.
Vs 10 Bible Warns us to use our tongue in a righteous way.
Psalms 34:12-13
12 Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days,
13 keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies.
If you want to see good days then keep your tongue away from evil. That means Gods blessing will be on us when we stop our tongue from lies, curses, filthy words, boasting.
Psalms 39:1
A psalm of David. I said, "I will watch my ways and keep my tongue from sin; I will put a muzzle on my mouth as long as the wicked are in my presence."
Here we see the devil wants to take hold of his tongue. He doesn't want to blame others. When you speak do you blame others or do you take responsibility for your own sin. Are you taking hold of you tongue today?
Proverbs 10:19
When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise.
When we hold our tongue we are wise.
Proverbs 25:15
Through patience a ruler can be persuaded, and a gentle tongue can break a bone.
A gentle tongue or are your words helping others to change. Is a broken man inspired by your talks? When we speak there should be love
in us.
Psalms 51:14-15
14 Save me from bloodguilt, O God, the God who saves me, and my tongue will sing of your righteousness.
15 O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.
Our tongue can be used to praise God, to be Righteous, and also to help other to grow.
Lets make a decision to use our tongue in a most spiritual way. Lets use it praise God.
