Looking back, we are able to see that God has used us in someway to glorify his wonderful name. Today we want all of you to see the importance of walking in God's light. You might be young or an old disciple, but being a disciple means that every single day we have to make decisions to walk in the light.
John 3:16-19
16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.
19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.
The above passage says that light has come to the world through Jesus. In addition, it says in V19 that men love darkness. Though we want to be in the light, our love for darkness will never go in our life. Now we will see two ways that can help us to walk in the light.
1. Speak the Truth
John 14:6
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Jesus is the truth and we all need to follow Jesus and his commandments. If you don't, you will be a liar and the truth is not in you (I Jn. 2:4). Today what is keeping us faithful in God's Kingdom is because the truth is always spoken through God's Word. We all have sinned and we need to seek the truth every single day.
Proverbs 12:19
Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment.
The truthful lips endure forever. When we speak the truth, we will always be faithful in God's Kingdom. A lying tongue lasts only a moment. Many of us go down in our spiritual journey, because we don't want to speak the truth and we give into deceit. Holding to the truth is very important and the only way is by following God's word.
Psalms 101:7
No one who practices deceit will dwell in my house; no one who speaks falsely will stand in my presence.
If we keep on practicing deceit without repenting, you cannot be in God's church and you cannot face God on judgment day. Today how serious are you in deceit or lying. Do you see as the scripture says that every single lie you make will not make you to see God? Moreover, that is how serious is deceit or lie. From our parents, friends and people around us, from our small ages we have learned to lie. Those times we did not understand God, but now as disciples, we have no excuses. I would leave a challenge to you to talk the entire big or small lie you commit every single day.
Proverbs 23:23
Buy the truth and do not sell it; get wisdom, discipline and understanding.
Buy the truth but not to sell the truth. How we can buy the truth is, by having a learning heart to take the messages. That we hear from our disciplers, leaders and matured Christians. The more you buy the truth, the more you can give the truth to others.
1 John 1:6
If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.
Ask yourself what are your dark areas in your life. Are you openly talking about your struggles and sins? If you don't talk about it, those dark areas will stop you growing spiritually. It is very painful to talk about dark areas in our lives, but it will make us happy that we are able to come back to the light and see the truth clearly. We encourage you to see your dark areas, especially things that bother you and talk about it, so that you can come into the light.
2. Pure Fellowship
Malachi 3:16
Then those who feared the LORD talked with each other, and the LORD listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the LORD and honored his name.
We saw how to walk in the Light, and now when we walk in the light we too can have pure fellowship with one another. Sometimes we think with whom to fellowship and what to talk. Sometimes it is only just a 'Hi and Bye' fellowship, which is very shallow. Sometimes our conversations are not encouraging, but discourage others. Sometimes, Satan uses us to commit sin during the fellowship, like slandering or putting down the other person or fighting and arguing or boasting about ourselves…, but this is not the way God wanted us to fellowship.
Psalm 145:11
They will tell of the glory of your kingdom and speak of your might,
Our fellowship should be talking about the glory of God's Kingdom. Talk about the great things, God has done in your life and in others life, in the Kingdom. Share the good news that you hear from your Bible talks and devotions. After hearing the message, talk about the decisions you have made, rather than being critical and finding out all the grammar mistakes that the preacher made.
1 John 1:7
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
If we are in the light we can have pure fellowship with one another. We don't think whether the person is rich or poor, good looking or not, disciple or non-disciple, leader or non-leader.
So ask yourself a question, how can you walk in the light? When you speak the truth, you are able to see God's light, working in your life, which motivates you to have a pure fellowship with one another. This is a great way to enjoy your life as a Christian.
